On this page you will find licks and riffs that I find useful and often use in my own playing. Some of these will be my own and others will be ones that have I have picked up from listening to other guitarists over the years. This is the ending lick that Gareth Pearson plays on his fantastic arrangement of Merle Travis’s Blue Smoke. I think that Gareth plays an E flat on the G string but I replaced it with a D as I like this lick to have a straight pentatonic sound. Start slow and make sure the pull off’s are well articulated and slowly add speed. Once you can play this lick quickly it’s a very impressive sound.
